Research Problem: "How can we improve the design and delivery of training programs (done at scale) to the in-service faculty in engineering education within India to enable them in effectively integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools within their teaching-learning context?"
Research Problem: Use of visualizations (animations/simulations) leads to attainment of crucial teaching-learning objectives, especially in science and engineering domains. But these objectives remain unrealized when most teachers lecture with the tool. This inability of teachers to create student-centered learning designs (LDs) that exploit tool affordances, has been identified as an important barrier to its effective integration. It becomes more challenging for teachers teaching in teacher-mediated classrooms that are common in India. In these classrooms students interact with the visualization via the teacher. Thus, our research objective is to develop a framework that will enable teachers to create effective, customized LDs for teaching using visualization in teacher- mediated classrooms.
Research Problem : The virtual laboratories (vlabs) have been implemented with students by faculties from various science and engineering institutes and are now a part of the curriculum. But faculties face many problems in proper and effective integration of these labs in their teaching. However, literature review shows that comprehensive guidelines for vlabs do not exist. Consequently, faculties are apprehensive of the value addition by these laboratories in the teaching- learning process. The objective of this project is to frame guidelines for effective integration of virtual laboratories in engineering teaching.
Research Problem : The design of an assessment instrument (AI) is one of the major components of assessment process. Today, even experienced teachers have to spend a lot of time and effort in manually ensuring the quality of alignment. Novice teachers lack expertise in creating quality AI as they are not trained for that or they do not have experience. My research work focuses on designing a framework that will be used to automatically evaluate the quality of an AI and provide constructive feedback to teachers before the instrument is given to students for solving.
