About Me

I started my career in 2009 as a software developer in CDAC, Mumbai. At the same time I started working on the area of educational content development by starting a YouTube channel named "Learn By Watch". “Learn By Watch” is now a successful YouTube channel with more than 5 lakh subscribers and more than 5 crore video views. Most of the educational videos available on LearnByWatch are in Hindi. My interest in the use of ICT in education brings me to a Ph.D. course in educational technology at IIT Bombay.

Hindi is not only my mother tongue. It has also been the language of instructions during my schooling. My experience of studying in an English only medium of instruction classroom was so terrible that I make it my research topic for Ph.D. The result is “a framework for scaffolding to teach programming to vernacular medium students.” The framework is not only limited to teaching programming; this framework can be used to scaffold a vernacular medium student in any course. Recently, I started working on the content based on this framework and the result is which will be released on 4 Feb 2020.

After completing Ph.D. in 2016, I start ETmantra. The goal of ETmantra is to provide training and support teachers in educational content creation. We help organizations and individuals in establishing their own content development methods and content delivery network.

At present, I am working as a project research scientist at IIT Bombay. I am maintaining frontend of IITBombayX, a MOOC platform, which is built using Drupal CMS.


I have worked in CDAC as Project Engineer and currently working in IIT Bombay as Project Research Scientist. Apart from this experience, I have spent a lot of time in search of hardware, software, services, framework, programming languages that can be used in either content development or in content delivery. That experience is mentioned below:

Educational Video Creation: I am creating educational videos since 2009 and I have recorded more than 10,000 videos until the end of 2019. I can categorize educational videos recorded by me into 7 types. TalkingHead, TableTop, ScreenCast, Khan academy, Overhead, Animation, and Explainer.

Educational Video delivery: I have spent a significant amount of time deploying, managing, extending and running popular LMSs including Moodle, OpenedX, Blackboard, Mahara, Chamilo, Canvas, Opigno, etc. Most of the LMS offers a structured manner to deliver content this is why I tried creating unstructured delivery systems using Drupal and Wordpress.

Cloud Services: AWS and Google Cloud. It is related to content development and content delivery both.

Authoring Tools: Lectora, H5P, HTML5, JavaScript, Adobe Articulate (almost all of them).

Title: Creating and running educational YouTube channels.

Abstract: YouTube makes it easy to publish videos and reach out to millions of people. Youtube channels make it easy to publish videos under a brand name, make followers and even get monetary benefits. Nowadays, teachers are also using YouTube channels to build a community of students around them and reach out to a large number of students. While it is effortless to start an educational channel, sustaining it and growing it is tough. In order to become successful on YouTube as a teacher, it is essential to understand how YouTube works, student's behavior, and content production techniques. In this talk, I will share the know-how and insights I have gained in the past ten years by running a successful educational YouTube channel - “Learn By Watch”, with emphasis on the role of EdTech principles. This talk can help you to identify the resources required to start an educational channel, plan a content development strategy, separate myths from trends, and select a business model for your educational business on YouTube.
